The Food and Nutrition staff at North Mississippi Medical Center- Eupora attended the 2012 SYSCO Health Care Seminar and Product Expo in Memphis.
Professional seminars consisted of such timely topics as Culture Change in Long Term Care Settings, Diabetes Updates, New Concerns Related to Obesity and Disease and Nutrition for Alzheimer’s Patients.
Multiple vendors from across the United States were available to discuss new products related to healthcare food service. The knowledge acquired at events such as this enables the staff to return to Eupora and provide the latest up-to-date information on nutrition and disease to the community.
Mississippi State University Dietetic students Margaret Wright, Leslie Carr and Brittney Baylot are completing their 150-hour field experience requirements at Eupora this summer. They accompanied the nutrition staff to this event.
“We got to see first hand how the food is ordered and brought into our facility. Products were on display for us to sample, and if we thought it would be beneficial for our establishment, Dr. (Connie Ray) Black (Food and Nutrition director) was able to place an order for it,” the students stated.
“Being able to sit in on the seminars with other health care professionals was a great learning experience, and the healthy food was amazing!” said Baylot. The students went on to say that attending the seminar and showcase was beneficial in that it gave them a connection between classroom learning and hands-on experience.
