Bryon Cooper Family Reunion The Riley L. Bryon Cooper Family Reunion will be held again this year at Dorroh Lake off Highway 9 north of Bellefontaine on July 7 from 9 a.m. until.

Family and friends are invited to attend. Bring a main dish or dessert. The reunion area is air-conditioned and the pool will be open. A family history computer and copier will be on site, so bring family pictures, etc. Call 552-9737 or 552-0402 for more information.

Benefit for Patsy Power A benefit for Patsy Power will be July 7 at the Stewart Fire Department. Barbecue, hamburger and hot dog plates will be available starting at 4 p.m. that include baked beans, slaw or chips, dessert and drink.

An auction will be at 5 p.m., and a cake and toy walk will be at 6 p.m. Chances are being sold on $100.

AARP driver safety program An AARP driver safety class is being offered especially for retired educators for just $5, a savings of up to $9 off the normal fee.

Mississippi law requires all vehicle insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates aged 55 and older of approved courses such as the AARP Driver Safety Program.

The half-day course is a classroom driver refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older. However, drivers of any age may attend. The course explains the changes that occur in the aging process and tips for handling these changes. It also serves as a refresher for general driving rules and conditions, and provides an update on driving laws.

A class is scheduled at the Webster County Extension Office at 16 E. Fox Ave. in Eupora on July 9. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Course materials cost is $12 for AARP members (must have card) and $14 for non-members. Retired educators and school personnel, $5.

Cub Scouts selling barbecue Cub Scouts Pack 30/144 is selling barbecue plates. They will consist of barbecue sandwich, chips, baked beans or slaw, dessert and sweet or unsweetened tea.

The plates are $8 a plate. The sales will go through July 11 and pickup is July 13 at Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora between 5-7 p.m. If you would like any plates or need any more information contact Nikki Carpenter at 552-5132 or Cindy Perkins at 552-2317.

Friends of the Library The next meeting of Friends of the Library will be July 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Webster County Library. Tony Kinton will be the speaker. Note time change; lunch provided.

‘Rural Community Meeting’ July 17 A “Rural Community Meeting” with Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley will be July 17 at Wood College Bennett Hall Auditorium in Mathiston from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Nutrition programs ADULT nutrition education classes, perfect for newly marrieds or new parents, or anyone wanting to brush up on cooking skills and current nutrition topics, are upcoming.

Wright Reunion The 42nd annual Wright Reunion will be July 27 at the VFW building 1 mile east of Eupora off U.S. 82. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. A covered-dish (potluck) luncheon will be served at noon

Benefit for Sonny Akins A benefit for Sonny Akins will be July 28 at Clarkson Baptist Church.

Hamburger and hot dog plates with baked beans, chips, drink and dessert will be available at 11 a.m.

An auction will be noon followed by a concert by the Josh Buford Band.

EHS ’50s get- together reunion A ’50s get-together will be July 28 at 2 p.m. at Eupora First Baptist Church Family Life Center to reminisce about old times and to talk about the last 50+ years.

This includes classes of 1950-59 or even if you didn’t graduate. Bring yourself and spouse or guest and some finger food. The committee will furnish cold drinks; donations will be received for the expenses.

The EHS class of 1957 will go to the Central Service Grill following the get-together for its 1957 class reunion starting at 5:30 p.m.

NASA workshop Webster County 4-H is hosting a NASA summer workshop.

Children who participate in NASA’s Summer of Innovation Camp will conduct experiments and perform activities related to air pressure, density, astronomy, gravity, robotics and the solar system.

These are the remaining dates for the workshops, which are from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.: • July 9, call the Extension Office by July 6 to reserve your spot. • July 23, call the Extension Office by July 20 to reserve your spot • July 30, call the Extension Office by July 27 to reserve your spot.

The workshop costs $5 and is open to youth in fourth through ninth grades.

Head Start An active recruitment campaign for 2012-13 is under way at the Eupora Head Start Center. Families on the Head Start waiting list or families with age-eligible children (age 3 on or before Sept. 1) may call 283-2227 for information.

School Board qualifying date Circuit Clerk Deborah Hood Neal announces that the qualifying date for Webster County School Board members, districts 3 and 4, will begin Aug. 7. The deadline will be 5 p.m. Sept. 7 to be placed on the November general election ballot. Contact the circuit clerk’s office at 258-6287 if any questions.

AA meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo at VFW Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

Longview Opry Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.
