Sam. G. ‘Luther’ Ables June 20, 2012 Services for Sam. G. “Luther” Ables, 81, of Ackerman, were June 24, 2012, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Jerry Lawson officiating. Burial was in Enon Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Attala County. Mr. Ables was a retired steel mill machinist/farmer and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He died June 20, 2012, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville.
Survivors include two sons, Luther Arnold Ables of Mathiston and Samuel Morris Ables of Ackerman; three daughters, Lily Diane Crawford of Hollandale, Sandra Nell Newman and Deborah Kay Wilson of Louisville; a sister, Frances Bridges of Gravett, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103 and/or the VFW.
Bruce Allen Baxter June 22, 2012 Services for Bruce Allen Baxter, 55, of Sturgis were June 25, 2012, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Roger Griffith officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 18, 1956. Mr. Baxter was a heavy equipment operators for North American Coal. He died June 22, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw in Ackerman.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Middleton Baxter of Sturgis; a son, Jessie Baxter of Ackerman; a stepson, Eric Bazzill of Saltillo; a daughter, Kelly Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother, Burney Baxter of Eupora; a sister, Shirley Forman of Columbus; his mother, Donnie Collins Baxter of Sturgis; and four grandchildren.

Lenvee ‘Bus Driver’ Hemphill June 16, 2012 Services for Lenvee “Bus Driver” Hemphill, 64, of Cleveland were June 23, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church in Renova with the Rev. Dr. Johnnie Cummins officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery near Eupora, where he was born and raised.
Mr. Hemphill died June 16, 2012, at Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hall Hemphill; two sons, Lenvee Hemphill Jr. and Rodrick Hemphill; a sister, Annette H. Mitchell; his mother, Arlethia P. Hemphill; and two grandsons, all of Cleveland.

Kaydence Rain McCool June 21, 2012 Services for Kaydence Rain McCool, infant, of Ackerman were June 25, 2012, at Ackerman Church of God with the Rev. Greg Chamblee officiating. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery near McCool.
She was born Aug. 23, 2011, in Starkville. Kaydence died June 25, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw in Ackerman.
Survivors include her father, Nathan McCool; her mother, Kelley Peeples; her maternal grandparents, Roger and Lisa Peeples; and her paternal grandparents, Chris and Candis Mayo McCool, all of Ackerman.

Mr. Eddie Bowles, 47, manager, retail outlet, died Thursday June 21 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Sunday June 24 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, Bro. Kerry Collins officiated, with burial in the Bluff Springs Cemetery in Choctaw County.
Pallbearers were Bobby Bowles, Colt McCleskey, Mike Swindoll, Steve Middleton, Dwight Kopponen, and David Green.
Eddie was a member of the Maben Church of God.

Mrs. Onita Parker, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Southaven, MS. Visitation was held Thursday, June 21, 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, June 22, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles White officiating. Interment was held at Kellum Parker Cemetery at Oktibbeha County.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Evelyn Mallet, Hernando, MS, and Doris Sims, Bay Springs, MS; 3 sons, Melvin Parker, Hernando, MS, Davis Parker, Horn Lake, MS, and Dale Parker, Horn Lake, MS; 2 brothers, Buddy Kellum, Mathiston, MS, and Fint Kellum, Byhalia, MS; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Thomas (Tom) Golden Hendrix
Thomas (Tom) Golden Hendrix passed away at home on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the age of 79. Tom was born in the Clarkson Community in Webster County, Ms. on February 5, 1933. He graduated from Cumberland High School where he was the captain of the basketball team for four years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning from his military duty, he attended Mississippi State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Tom moved to Jackson, Ms. and worked as the comptroller for Con-Plex for over 20 years. He and his two partners founded Key Constructors, Inc. in 1973. Key Constructors built many roads, bridges and levees throughout the Southeast. After his retirement in 1982, Tom moved back to Webster County and lived in Eupora, Ms. He bought the family grocery store, Hendrix Grocery, in the Clarkson community and continued the general store operation established by his mom and dad, Kate and J. G. Hendrix. Tom received his private pilot’s license and enjoyed traveling the country in his plane. He was a devoted fan of Mississippi State football and basketball. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, genealogy, computers and electronics. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eupora.
Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Monday June 25th at the Montevista Baptist Church, Gerald Love officiated, with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were John Hendrix, Ben McCain, Zach Bennett, Matthew Hendrix, Christian Lewis, and Mack Hendrix.
Tom is survived by his children, Sherry Hendrix Pender and her husband, John, of Jackson, MS, Alan Hendrix and his wife, Cheryl, of Madison, MS, and Lisa Hendrix McCain and her husband, Richard, of Madison, MS. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Christian Lewis, Beth Hendrix Bennett and her husband, Zach, Ben McCain, Matthew Hendrix, and Katie McCain. Other survivors are his three brothers, William “Nig” Hendrix and wife, Mary Ann, Jerry Hendrix and wife, Icy, and Gene Hendrix and wife, Joyce; Wanda, wife of James Hendrix; Gladys, wife of Bobby Hendrix; Owen, husband of Sandra Hendrix Denton, and many nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Kate White Hendrix and J. G. Hendrix; his sisters, Sara Hendrix and Sandra Hendrix Denton; and his brothers, James Hendrix and Bobby Hendrix.
Tom was a generous and kind man who enjoyed life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Bobby Graham and Verteal Bell who did so much to make his last year on this earth as comfortable as possible.
