MABEN — It was another fun time at the Maben Library on May 18 as the children gathered to hear “The Grouchy Ladybug,” which is a story about a ladybug that obviously got up on the wrong side of the bed at 5 o’clock in the morning.
She starts her day by grumbling at another small ladybug, which was eating aphids.
At each hour of the day she would challenge someone to a fight, but then she would tell them that they were not big enough to fight her. Hourly, she would meet a new animal or insect: a wasp, a beetle, a praying mantis, a snake, an elephant, a hyena, a rhinoceros, a gorilla and on up to the biggest animal of all: the whale.
Of course, none of them wanted to fight; they probably wondered what was wrong with the ladybug. More than likely, she was just hungry. In the end the lightning bugs came out and the grouchy ladybug gets back to where she started. The friendly ladybug is there, still eating, and tells the grouchy bug she is welcome to the aphids.
The kids then gathered at the craft tables to decorate paper clocks, complete with hands, showing the hour and the minute. After coloring the clock faces, Ms. Mary had a surprise for everybody: ice cream cones and Cheetos. YUM! YUM!
This was the last day of Story Hour until Sept. 7 at 10 o’clock.
