Deon Bedford signs with Belhaven

East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball standout Deon Bedford of West Oktibbeha County High School has signed a scholarships to play basketball at Belhaven University.

He signed with Belhaven during the first week of May.

Bedford, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward from Maben, averaged eight points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season. He made 45.7 percent of his field goal attempts and led the team with a 75.7 percentage from the free-throw line.

“Deon is a high level athlete,” Belhaven coach Tom Kelsey said. “He won three NJCAA Region 23 championship rings while at EMCC, two while playing and one as a redshirt, and will bring a championship mentality to our program. We feel as though we are getting a NCAA Division I level player, and are excited to see Deon develop and continue his education with us.”

Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, Southern States Athletic Conference and Mid-South Conference. It sponsors 13 sports.
