By Jane Collins, Manager Maben Farmers’ Market
MABEN — The Maben Farmers’ Market depends on the loyalty of our vendors to come every week and bring their special items for sale.
Our most loyal vendor is William Shaw, who has come every week and plans to continue throughout the season to offer beautiful produce like that seen in the accompanying photo. Shaw also takes orders for shelled peas and butterbeans.
He will add to his offerings as fruits and vegetables come into season. Look for his Facebook page to see what produce he is offering and to leave him orders.
Back again last week was Danny Akers of Center Grove with his barbecue pulled pork and ribs. Saturday we will welcome back Noxapater cakes and fried pies and Fulgham Pork Skins, who were both unable to come last week.
We had five new vendors Saturday: Brenda Washington of Pheba with homegrown ripe and partially green tomatoes; Percy Outlaw from Starkville with homegrown blueberries, blackberries and some baked goods; David Vance from Houston, who drove up with a huge load of watermelons and cantaloupes; Ivy Fuller of Mathiston with an assortment of crafts, flea market items and some fresh turnip greens; and Diane Raye of Eupora who featured her handmade tin flowers, wind chimes and ribbon bows.
The Maben Chamber of Commerce continues to sell chances every week on the Remington automatic shotgun to be given away at the market later this summer. New vendors are always welcome. Come early to set up and fill out our registration form. There is a $5 fee for a space each week.
Shoppers will always find new and fresh finds each week, so come and shop at our friendly market on the lot next to the Maben Post Office, Saturdays from 7 til 10 a.m. You may be a winner at our $30 drawing; last Saturday’s winner was Faye Raines from Eupora.
