Wynell V. Banks June 3, 2012 Graveside services for Wynell V. Banks, 86, of Jackson are 3 p.m. June 7, 2012, at Hopewell Cemetery near McCool with Larry Vanlandingham officiating. She was born April 12, 1926. Mrs. Banks was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas. She died June 3, 2012, at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Jackson. Survivors include a son, Richard Joe Banks; a brother, Larry Vanlandingham; a stepdaughter, Dorsey Coffey; a stepson, Chester Banks; five sisters, Hilda Blanton, Cornelia Davis, Shirley Davis, Alice Holland and Dorothy Leahy; one grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman is in charge of arrangements.

James W. Carter May 30, 2012 Graveside services for James W. Carter, 82, of Ackerman were May 31 at Enon Cemetery. He was born May 9, 1930, in Winston County. Mr. Carter was a retired purchasing agent for U.S. Motors and served in the Air Force for 21 years. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Carter died May 30, 2012, at his residence. Survivors include two sons, James G. “Jim” Carter of Ackerman and John P. Carter of Florida; a daughter, Judy Henning of Ackerman; a sister, Maureen Perkins of Louisville; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Lee Garey May 24, 2012 A memorial service for Michael Lee Garey, 62, will be held at a later date. He was born Nov. 17, 1949. A 1967 graduate of Memphis Technical High School, Mr. Garey enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968, serving in Okinawa and Vietnam until 1970. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #4 in Memphis, Tenn., for more than 25 years, working in Memphis and Florida. He died May 24, 2012. Survivors include his mother, Mary Jo Miles Garey; two brothers, John Garey and Jerry Garey; and three sisters, Brenda Holloway, Jackie Hitt and Cathy Pannell. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman is in charge of arrangements.

Tommy H. Parker May 30, 2012 Services for Tommy H. Parker, 69, of Grenada were June 2, 2012, at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada with the Rev. Michael Lee and Dr. Clarence Cooper officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Webster County. He was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Calhoun County to the late John Harmon and Margaret Bryant Parker. He worked as a service manager in the auto service industry, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Parker was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grenada. He died May 30, 2012 at Grenada Lake Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Diann Woods Parker of Grenada, formerly of Eupora; three daughters, Demeka Parker Parkerson of Madison, Kayla Parker Schraenkler of Grenada and Lori Parker of Chelsea, Ala.; three brothers, Ronnie Parker, John R. “Quincy” Parker and Carl Lynn Parker, all of Bruce; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Eddie Murphy Stewart, MS

Mr. Eddie Murphy, 56, Owner of Murphy’s Guns and Ammo and Generator Service, died Thursday May 31st. 2012 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Ms. Visitation was held Sunday June 3rd., 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Oliver Funeral Home, Eupora, Ms. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Woodrow Cooksey

Mr. Woodrow Cooksey, 60, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center- Tupelo in Tupelo, MS. Visitation was held Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Oliver Funeral Home, Eupora, MS with Bro. Howard Rogers officiating. Interment was at Embry Cemetery at Webster County. Mr. Cooksey was a retired worker, 20 years at Futorian, and 5 years at Dixie Craft. Mr. Cooksey was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Cooksey; brother, Charles Cooksey; and sister, Martha Cooksey. He is survived by his wife, Hester (Smith) Cooksey (his wife of 43 years), Eupora, MS; 1 daughter, Karen (Kevin) Vaughan, Eupora, MS; 1 son, Kevin Cooksey, Eupora, MS; 4 sisters, Bertine Fowler, Eupora, MS, Sybil (Mike) Stone, Fulton, MS, Ilene (Charles) White, Eupora, MS, Carolyn (Jake) Sisk, Mathiston, MS; 3 brothers, Robert (Phyliss) Cooksey, Eupora, MS, Jerry (Rhonda) Cooksey, Eupora, MS, and Homer (Carolyn) Cooksey, New Albany, MS; and 4 grandchildren, Criss Cooksey, Nikki Cooksey, Austin Vaughn, and Kallee Vaughn.
