Cub Scouts carwash/bake sale Cub Scouts Pack 30/144 will be having a carwash/bake sale on June 2 at SuperValu in Eupora from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All funds will be used for the pack’s summer activities.

Woodmen cookout Woodmen of the World Lodge 94 of Eupora will host a family cookout for all Woodmen members on June 2 at 7 p.m. Bring your family for a great meal and entertainment by “Long Way To Go,” a bluegrass gospel group from Maben. Members are asked to bring their families and guests for a meal of hamburgers and hotdogs, and need to bring a dessert. The lodge will furnish cold drinks and coffee.

Deadline nears for election commissioner filing Deborah Hood Neal, circuit clerk for Webster County, reminds everyone that the deadline to qualify for the office of election commissioner, districts 1-5, ends at 5 p.m. June 4. Anyone interested or who has any questions may contact the circuit clerk’s office at 258-6287.

Fason Reunion The Fason Reunion will be June 9 at the home of Boogie and Jeannie Holland in Maben. Come bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship. For more information call 263-4056. Benefit for Paul Peacock A benefit for William “Paul” Peacock for medical expenses for lymphoma will be June 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Stewart Fire Department. The benefit will feature music, food, raffles and a cakewalk. A fund has been set up at the Bank of Kilmichael. Come out and support Paul and family. For more information call 312-6149.

Kids in the Kitchen If you’re a kid and you’re looking for something fun this summer, check out Kids in the Kitchen. This class is specially designed for kids ages 8 to 14. Kids in the Kitchen is an action-packed class where kids learn to cook great tasting food and learn how to make fitness a fun part of their life. It will be held at the Webster County Extension office June 19-20 from 9 a.m.-noon each day. The program is free, but pre-registration is required. Summer Reading Program at Webster County Library Webster County Library will be hosting a Summer Reading Program during the month of June. This year’s theme is “DreamBig! READ.” This is the schedule for the program: • June 5: Edwin Faughn from Rainwater Observatory in French Camp • June 12: Nature’s Nightlife — real nighttime animals • June 19: Dreams — puppets with Dot McCorkle and Pat Ray • June 26: Wishes with Heather Harper and Julia Stephenson Children from age 4-10 may attend each Tuesday in June from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Webster County Library. Regular Story Time will be discontinued during June and July. It will resume during August.

Maben Summer Reading Program Readers will dream big this summer as Maben Public Library presents “Dream Big, Own the Night.” Children will learn about nocturnal animals and other interesting things that happen at night through music, crafts, food, art and other activities. The Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings and more. Schedule: June 12 – Pam Awad; 19th – Beverly Smith, Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge; and 26th – Lisa Hester, Art. Head Start recruitment An active recruitment campaign for the 2012-13 school year is under way for the Head Start/Early Head Start Program at the Eupora Head Start Center. Families on the Head Start waiting list or families with age-eligible children (age 3 on or before Sept. 1, 2012) may call Central Mississippi Inc. at 283-2227 for information about required documents for updated/new applications.

AA meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo at VFW Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

Longview Opry Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.

Church News

Bellefontaine UMC Join Dollar General and Bellefontaine United Methodist Church in collecting nonperishable food items and help stop hunger in Webster County. The food drive continues through May 31 at Dollar General in Eupora. Donations will go to needy families in Webster County, as well as the Webster County Baptist Association’s Food Pantry.

Maben Memorial Garden Maben Memorial Garden’s annual memorial will be June 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Maben United Methodist Church. The Rev. Shawn Nygard, pastor of Midway Church of Christ, will bring the message. Hebron Baptist Hebron Baptist Church in Webster County will have its annual memorial on June 3. A cemetery business meeting will be at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Carl Nickels, pastors, will give the messages at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served following the service.

Spring Valley Baptist Revival at Spring Valley Baptist Church will be June 3-6. The Rev. David Hamilton, pastor of West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc, will be the speaker. Service times are 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. Special music will be each night. The church is located on Spring Valley Road in Mathiston.

Tomnolen Baptist Tomnolen Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School June 4-8 from 6-8:30 p.m. daily for ages 3-youth. The theme of VBS is “SpaceQuest!: Exploring My Mission With Jesus.” As the adventure begins, kids and teachers will buckle in, sit back and blast off on an adventure-filled journey. Kids will discover that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. They will learn that choosing God as their captain will lead them to enjoy the ultimate adventure — a relationship with Jesus Christ. Wilkins Chapel Wilkins Chapel M.B. Church in Duck Hill will have revival at 7:30 p.m. June 6-8. The Rev. Mark Williamson of Jackson will be the guest speaker. Also, Wilkins Chapel has an evening community fellowship service at 5 p.m. every fourth Sunday. Each service will have a different speaker from the community. Fellowship Baptist Fellowship Baptist Church in Choctaw County will have memorial services on June 17 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Frank Trotter, former pastor and current associate pastor of West Jackson Baptist Church in Tupelo, will bring the memorial message. Kent Brooks of Lubbock, Texas, will lead a history/memory time during the services. Rose Smith Burton will be in charge of the music service.
