75 Years Ago: May 27, 1937 McCain Town News: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oswalt spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. William Shaw.

Miss Jewel McCain returned Friday from a trip to the coast. She went with Miss Brown and the Eupora Home Economics girls.

Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Wade and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Hitt on Sunday.

Mr. John Marion Moore of Birmingham is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Moore, this week.

Little J.T. Hamby from near Calhoun City is spending a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Ward.

Mr. and Mrs. Cooper Mitchell had as guest on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Mitchell and daughter, Sarah Love, Mr. and Mrs. Norvell Mitchell and daughter, Willie Lou and Mr. and Mrs. Wister Neal.

Riddling Creek News: Bonnie Vaughan spent several days last week with Miss Icey Bell.

Mrs. Tommy Latham spent Saturday with Grandma Herron and two daughters, Misses Betty and Trudie. Mr. and Mrs. Henson Bradshaw and daughters, Rillie, Mary, Stella and Ella spent Sunday morning with Mr. and Mrs. Arville Vaughan.

Quite a number enjoyed an ice cream supper Saturday night at Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Carwyle’s.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bradshaw spent a while Sunday morning with Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Sparks.

Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bilbo Wright on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Elkins and children and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cooper and children.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Carwyle had as their dinner guests on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Willie Strickland and children and Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Threadgill.

50 Years Ago: May 24, 1962 2 Students Take Honors of ’62 Class

Miss Sarah Lynn Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Sanders, has been named valedictorian of the graduating class of Eupora High School for the current year. Miss Sue Helen Scarbrough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Scarbrough, has been named salutatorian. These girls are finishing with highest honors from a class of seventy at Eupora high School and plan to attend Mississippi College for Women this fall.

Big Black News: Mr. and Mrs. John Ferguson spent last week in the delta with relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tom Curry were recent guests with Mrs. Mattie Meredith.

Miss Ruth Crowley and Mrs. Louise Bland went to Grenada on Wednesday.

Mrs. James Crowley spent Sunday with relatives in Woodland. Sunday night supper guests in the James Crowley home were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clemons and children . Mr. and Mrs. Glen Murphree were recent guests with Mr. and Mrs. John Bland near Mathiston.

Mr. and Mrs. Dewie Crowley called to see Mrs. Roxie Crowley Tuesday night.

25 Years Ago: May 21, 1987 Eupora Eagle Selected for Game

Kenneth Wade, senior pitcher and shortstop for the District IV Class 3A Champion Eupora Eagles, has been selected to play in the 1987 MS High School All-Star game in Jackson.

Wade lettered four years in baseball during his high school career. His senior year, he led the Eagles in several categories and was the Eagles’ Most Valuable Player. The coaches of District IV Class 3A selected Wade as the Most Valuable Player in the district. In addition, he was selected to the All-District team.

Other Eagles to make the All-District Class 3A team were Jon Powell, Douglas Oats, Lee Berryhill, Todd Walker and Milton Davis. For the second year, the coaches of District IV chose a super All-District IV team. This team includes players from schools of all the five classes. Kenneth Wade, Jon Powell and Milton Davis were selected on this team.

Frank Wade, Kenneth’s older brother, and Keith Ford are past performers in the MS High School All-Star Game that played at Eupora High School. Coach Curtis Ford stated that “Kenneth has worked hard to be the ballplayer he is. He loves the game and is very deserving of having been selected to play in the All-Star game.”

Lollar’s Grove News: Mrs. Linda Fields of Starkville spent the day Sunday with Mrs. Kathy Fox. They visited Mrs. Delma Sims a while.

Mrs. Nancy Cothran and baby visited parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Carroll Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Cooke of Columbus visited parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Gaines, over the weekend and attended Memorial Services at Mt. Moriah on Sunday.

Mrs. Nellie Gaines visited Mrs. Delma Sims a while Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Andrea Kimbrell of Mathiston visited parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fox, sister, Angela, and brother, Chris. She also visited in the Thurman Kimbrell home.

Mrs. Bertha Mae Cummings visited Mrs. Gina Holland a while Wednesday and Thursday.
