Mary Anne Doolittle Byrne, a Webster County native, was the speaker at the May meeting of Friends of the Webster County Library.

She presented a slide show featuring animals that were unwanted, neglected or abused and ended up in shelters. She spoke about the importance of having animals spayed and neutered, and how people can make a difference in the lives of unwanted and neglected dogs and cats.

After the meeting, those in attendance enjoyed a sack lunch of pulled-pork sandwich with chips and a drink.

Mrs. Byrne has published a book about her work called “Recycled Pets Are Best,” which is available on All proceeds from the sale of the book go to buy food for shelter pets.
