Sumners Foundation beneficiary of $50,000 gift

Regions Bank of Jackson, trustee for the Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Sumners Foundation, has reported that an anonymous gift of $50,000 was made to the foundation in early April. The donor was interested in giving back to the community and felt that through a gift to the Sumners Foundation, the gift would benefit many individuals of the five counties named in the Sumners Foundation Trust, according to the announcement. “The donor is most impressed with work this foundation has done,” the statement read. The foundation began in the late 1970s with just over $22 million and offers scholarships to students from Webster, Montgomery, Attala, Carroll and Choctaw counties to attend one of five institutions of higher learning: University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Mississippi Medical Center, Millsaps College and Holmes Community College. At the end of 2012, $92.5 million will have been distributed to these colleges and universities to assist students from the five counties to seek a higher education. To make a donation to the Sumners Foundation, mail checks to Regions Bank, Trustee for the Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Sumners Foundation, P.O. Box 23100, Jackson, MS 39225-3100.
