Worldwide Weekend of Prayer for ALS The Worldwide Weekend of Prayer for ALS is May 11-13. People of all faith traditions are asked to mark their calendars for this observance and join in a moment of prayer on this weekend for all of those dealing with ALS. Tens of thousands of Americans are living with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, motor neurone disease, Maladie de Charcot), which is a motor neuron disease. May is ALS Awareness Month, which spotlights the challenges being faced by individuals living with ALS as well as the importance of speeding worldwide research seeking treatments and cures for the fatal disease. Edgeworth memorial Edgeworth memorial will be May 13. Cemetery service will be at 10:30 a.m. and a worship service will follow at 11 a.m.

LaGrange memorial The annual LaGrange memorial will be May 13 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Henry Ross will deliver the memorial address. Lunch will follow at the new pavilion and fellowship hall.

Marvin Hill Methodist Marvin Hill Congregational Methodist Church in Cumberland will be having memorial service on May 13. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Special singers will perform.

Mt. Zion Baptist Annual memorial service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church will be May 13. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Halford, pastor, bringing the message. • Mt. Zion VBS: Mt Zion Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School May 29-June 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. daily. All children kindergarten and up (youth included) may participate.

Reeds Chapel Baptist Memorial service at Reeds Chapel Baptist Church will be May 13 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Robert Lawrence from Crossville, Tenn., will be speaker. The Rev. James Caffey and wife, LaDonna, will be in charge of music. Food and fellowship follows in the fellowship hall.

Sapa Baptist The annual memorial at Sapa Baptist Church will be May 13. Bro. Bubba Bland will present the memorial address at 11 a.m., with special music by Asia Flora. Lunch will be served following the services.

Shady Grove Methodist Shady Grove Methodist Church located on County Home Road in Webster County will have its annual memorial service at 11 a.m. May 13. The Rev. Waymon Betts of Eupora will give the message and a covered-dish lunch will be served after the service.

Mt. Moriah UMC Memorial service at Mt Moriah United Methodist Church will be May 20 at 11 a.m. Roger Miller will be the speaker and Steven Flake will lead the music. Lunch will be served at noon under the shade trees.

North Union The North Union Cemetery memorial service will be May 20 at 11 a.m. at the tabernacle. The Rev. Don Vaughan will be officiating with Debbie Knight directing the music. The board of directors’ meeting will be at 10:45 a.m.

Embry Cemetery Memorial at Embry Cemetery, located 3½ miles west of Bellefontaine on Highway 404, will be May 27. Committee members are Alex Allday, Jack Hendricks and Charles E. Hitt. Grave decorations will start at 10 a.m. Worship will be at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church. Dr. Robert E. “Bob” Self of Enid, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada, will deliver the message.

Bellefontaine UMC Bellefontaine United Methodist Church will be placing flags on the graves of veterans at North Union Cemetery in time for its annual memorial service at 11 a.m. May 20. Flags are donated by the Joe H. Morehead VFW Post. The church has a list of more than 100 veterans. To add someone to the list or to verify a veteran will receive a flag, email gwenwoodssisson@yahoo.com by May 19. Food Drive: Did you know that more than 49 million American go hungry every day? Many Webster County residents also go hungry, including children. Join Dollar General and Bellefontaine United Methodist Church in collecting nonperishable food items and help stop hunger in Webster County. The food drive will be May 1-31 at Dollar General in Eupora daily. Look for the collection box on the right hand side of the store as you walk in and help make a difference for the needy in Webster County. Donations will go to needy families in Webster County, as well as the Webster County Baptist Association’s Food Pantry.
