National Day of Prayer A brief program will be at the NMMC-Eupora flagpole at noon May 3 in recognition of the National Day of Prayer. Maben Farmers’ Market The Maben Farmer’s Market opens May 5 and will be Saturdays from 7-10 a.m. next door to the post office. Fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and baked goods, handmade crafts and flea market items will be available. Vendors will be charged a $5 fee each market. Williams, Golden, Bailey Reunion The Williams, Golden and Bailey Reunion will be May 5 starting at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Montevista Baptist Church, Montevista Road. All descendants and family friends may attend. Call Larry Biggers at 706-464-6870 for more information. Webster County FireWise Workshop “How to Have a FireWise Home” Workshop will be May 8 at the Eupora Community Center. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. The purpose of the workshop is to provide participants tools to assess fire risks in around their homes and communities. The workshop encourages sound land-use planning, creative mitigation and supportive community infrastructure to reduce the occurrence of fire losses. The workshop will help participants understand how to prevent home ignitions through fire-resistant vegetation for landscaping purposes and fire-resistant building designs. Homeowners, Realtors, developers, emergency managers, insurance agents, volunteer and paid firefighters, registered foresters, professional logging managers, forest landowners and elected officials are encouraged to attend. Registered foresters, professional logging managers, Realtors, volunteer and paid firefighters can earn continuing education credits for attending this workshop. Sponsors are the Webster County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Northeast Mississippi Resource Conservation and Development Council. The program will be presented and funded by the Mississippi Forestry Commission through a National Fire Plan grant. A meal will be provided at the workshop. Pre-registration is required to attend. Greensboro historical marker dedication Old Choctaw County Chapter, NSDAR, cordially invites everyone to a dedication ceremony for a historical marker at Greensboro, the first county seat of the original Choctaw County, thus giving the chapter its name. The town of Greensboro disappeared long ago, leaving behind a cemetery and colorful history to mark its passing. The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. May 12 at the newly constructed chapel at Greensboro Cemetery. Peacock Reunion The Peacock Reunion will be May 19 at the home of Robert “Boogie” and Paula “Jeannie” Holland in Maben. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship. May 3 – Lynette McDougald will have a floral presentation that focuses on topiary forms. These popular structures are seen in many places including formal gardens and floral designs. May 10 – “The Basics of Home Canning,” presented by Pamela Redwine, nutrition and food safety area agent. Statistics show that home canning equipment sales increased by 30 percent last year and canning classes are seeing skyrocketing enrollments. So come join Pamela as she walks you through “the basics of home canning.” May 24 – “Getting Started with Backyard Chickens,” Miriam Sansing and Alison Buehler will show us what is involved in getting started with raising chickens in your own backyard.
