“How to Have a FireWise Home” Workshop will be May 8 at the Eupora Community Center. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. The purpose of the workshop is to provide participants tools to assess fire risks in around their homes and communities. The workshop encourages sound land-use planning, creative mitigation and supportive community infrastructure to reduce the occurrence of fire losses. The workshop will help participants understand how to prevent home ignitions through fire-resistant vegetation for landscaping purposes and fire-resistant building designs. Homeowners, Realtors, developers, emergency managers, insurance agents, volunteer and paid firefighters, registered foresters, professional logging managers, forest landowners and elected officials are encouraged to attend. Registered foresters, professional logging managers, Realtors, volunteer and paid firefighters can earn continuing education credits for attending this workshop. The workshop is being sponsored by the Webster County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Northeast Mississippi Resource Conservation and Development Council. The program will be presented and funded by the Mississippi Forestry Commission through a National Fire Plan grant. A meal will be provided at the workshop. Pre-registration is required to attend.
