Library photos, bake sale On April 21, Kim Kelley Photography will be at the Webster County Public Library to take photographs from 9-1. The pictures will be available in time for the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Friends of the Library will be hosting a bake sale also on that Saturday at the library. Sprayberry reunion The 78th annual Sprayberry reunion will be in Calhoun City at the American Legion building April 21 starting at 9 a.m. Bring your favorite dish. Benefit for Heather Fountain A benefit for Heather Fountain to help pay for weight loss surgery will be April 21 from noon until 6 p.m. at Whites Creek Lake in Eupora. Pulled-pork, grilled chicken and hamburger plates will be served for a donation of $5 each. The benefit will also feature a cakewalk and games for children. For more information call 662-364-6898. Gospel singing A gospel singing will be April 21 at 7 p.m. at Sherwood Community Center featuring the McMillians of Walnut, Native Horizon of Choctaw, Joy Card of Eupora and Danita Douglas of Ackerman. Private pesticide applicator’s certification class The Webster County Extension Office will host a private pesticide applicator’s class for certification to use restricted-use pesticides at 4 p.m. April 23. The fee is $10. Call 258-3971 to register. Mobile WIN Job Center visits The Mobile WIN Job Center will set up shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 at the former Garan factory on Highway 9 South in Eupora. The Mississippi Department of Employment Security’s mobile WIN Job Centers are valuable tools for job searches, creating and updating resumes, and other services. Kindergarten signup Eupora Elementary School and East Webster Elementary School (Mathiston) will have kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year on April 25-26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Parents must provide these items for complete enrollment: • Child’s original certified birth certificate • Child’s Social Security card • Child’s complete immunization (shot) record • Three proofs of residency (911 address) Proof of Residence • Must provide at least two of the these current and active utility bills with 911 addresses as proof of residence: electric bill, water/ sewage bill, trash bill or gas bill. • Must provide at least one of these current and active items with 911 addresses as proof of residence: filed homestead exemption application form, mortgage documents or property deed, apartment or home lease, valid driver’s license, voter precinct identification, automobile registration or other documentation from the Webster County School Superintendent’s office. Only 911 addresses will be accepted on residency items. P.O. boxes, handwritten notes and notarized affidavit forms will not be accepted as proof of residency. REMINDER: Children must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2012. Even if you do not have any of the above information, you may still register your child for kindergarten on these dates. The schools need a count of students to prepare for the upcoming school year. Anyone with questions should call 258-6735 (Eupora) or 263-8373 (East Webster). ‘Healthy Eating and Cooking’ “A New Take on Healthy Eating and Cooking,” presented by Dr. Carla Stanford, area agent, MSU Extension, will be April 26 at 3 p.m. at the Webster County Extension Office. With the high prevalence of high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes in America, it is more important than ever to develop healthy eating habits. This free workshop, open to the public, will cover hints for healthy nutrition in fun and innovative ways. Participants will also receive recipes to help them start a healthier lifestyle. Band concert The Eupora Band Department will present its annual Spring Concert on April 26 at 7 p.m. in Eupora High School’s Latham Auditorium. The concert will include selections from the Beginner Band, the Jr. High Band and the High School Band. Admission is $3 per person. Relay for Life sky lanterns Remember or honor an active caregiver or a caregiver who lost a loved one battling cancer by dedicating a sky lantern to be lit during Relay for Life of Webster County. Sky lanterns also will be available at the survivor tent at the Relay for Life event April 27 at the NMMC-Eupora walking track. Relay for Life luminaries The American Cancer Society and people throughout the United States are committed to winning the battle against cancer. Join people throughout Webster County to help in the fight against this dreaded disease by making a donation of $10 for a luminaria in honor or in memory of someone touched by cancer. Webster County’s fourth annual Relay for Life event will be April 27. Luminaries (with the names on them) will line the walking track at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora on April 27, the night of the event. During the event, all participants will share in the special luminaria ceremony; candles will be lit and names will be called of those for whom donations for luminaries have been received. Anyone interested in making a donation of $10 for a luminaria may request an order form at businesses that display the bright yellow luminaria poster or by calling Frances Hyde at 552-0705. People are encouraged to secure their luminaries early so that they may enjoy the activities the night of the event. Join in the fight against cancer. Relay for Life caps available Webster County Relay for Life caps are available for sale at CB&S Bank. They are white with pink embroidery and white with purple embroidery. All proceeds will go to Webster County Relay for Life. The price is $10 each. Hebron community center meeting As part of the Choctaw County Extension Office’s Turning the Tide on Poverty project, the youth action team is working toward the possibility of establishing a community center in the Hebron community. Anyone interested in learning more about development a community center is invited to attend an interest meeting at 10 a.m. April 28 at the Old Discount Food Store building, Highway 9 and Hester Road. City testing storm sirens The city of Eupora is testing its severe weather sirens each Saturday at noon through the month of April unless severe weather threatens. The duration of the tests will be approximately two-three minutes. Maben Farmers’ Market The Maben Farmer’s Market opens May 5 and will be Saturdays from 7-10 a.m. next door to the post office. Fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and baked goods, handmade crafts and flea market items will be available. Vendors will be charged a $5 fee each market.
