Library exhibits art by Mike Box

On display at the Webster County Public Library is an art exhibit by Mike Box. He received a bachelor’s in art from Mississippi State University and master of art education from the University of Southern Mississippi. After a career of teaching art at Pearl High School, Box retired in May 2007. He has served as president of the Mississippi Art Education Association and was elected Mississippi Art Educator of the Year in 1992. Box said he feels very privileged to have been a part of the Pearl School District’s Fine Art Department, which received a Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2005. Before beginning his teaching and art career he served on active duty in the Army for eight years. He was stationed in the Panama Canal for more than two years and in Nuremberg, Germany, for three years. When he resigned his commission , he had attained the rank of captain. Mike and his wife of 38 years, Jamie, are both graduates of Eupora High School. They have retired and moved back “home” to the Eupora area. Come by the library to view the work of Mike Box, which will be on display for a few weeks. The library is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30-5.
