Account set up for Cindy Beam A bank account has been set up for Cindy Beam of Mathiston to help with her medical bills. She was injured in a wreck March 12, and is unable to work and has no insurance. Donations may be made at any branch of Regions Bank in the account of Linda Perkins (her mother) for the benefit of Beam. Call 258-3490 for more information. Pressure canner gauge testing The Webster County Extension Service is testing dial gauges for pressure canners every Monday and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. during March. Call 258-3971 for more information. Benefit for Darlene Wilson A benefit for cancer patient Darlene Williams Wilson will be March 31 at the Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora. Activities will begin at 2 p.m., and will include music, food, fellowship and at auction at 5 p.m. Anyone needing additional information or wanting to make a donation or help in any other way may call Donny Buckner at 769-6102, Tony Williamson at 552-9090, Jerry Jones at 435-0047 or Gene Williamson at 552-2116. MBC Easter egg hunt, photos The Mathiston Beautification Committee will host an Easter egg hunt March 31 in the town park at 1 p.m. for two age groups: birth- 4 and 5-12. Children should wear tennis shoes and bring an Easter basket. Photographer Carrie Perkins will be taking Easter pictures with a live bunny (fingers crossed he will be still). You’ll get a 4×6 for $5 or small package for $20, which is an 8×10, a 5×7 and four wallets. She will start setting up about one hour before the egg hunt. The committee will also be giving two “happy baskets” away to two lucky children — one per age group. “Hope to see lots of children for our egg hunt.” For more information, call Betty at 312-8724 or Sue at 263-6161. Gore, Boatman present senior recital at FBC Eupora High School seniors Chace Gore and Justin Boatman will present their senior recital on March 31 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Eupora. The recital will feature selections from trumpet, piano, euphonium and guitar. Chace, Justin and their families invite the public to join them in this celebration of their accomplishments. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center. Gospel singing A gospel singing at Sherwood Community Center is set for 7 p.m. March 31 featuring Family Tradition, Chuck Clark and Heavenly Journey. A love offering will be received. EHS Merit- Awards Banquet The Eupora High School Merit-Awards Banquet will be April 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Any organization wishing to make a presentation at the banquet needs to contact the school at 258-4041 no later than April 1. Computer classes These classes are being taught at the Webster County Extension Office by John Giesmann, MSU Extension Service. Classes are a limited number so please call 258-3971 to register. April 2 – Intro To Computer and Microsoft Word (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) Learn the basics of a computer and how to create, save and correct a word document. Cost is $10. April 3 – Intro to Internet (9 a.m.-noon) Learn how to search, save and maneuver around the Internet. Cost is $5. Intro to Email (1-4 p.m.) Learn how to create, save and organize emails. Cost is $5. April 4 – Excel (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) Many have asked for this class so here it is. Learn how to create an Excel spreadsheet, create formulas and much more. Cost is $10. UBS blood drives United Blood Services will conduct upcoming local blood drives in Webster County. On April 3, the bloodmobile will be at Eupora High School from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and another blood drive will be at Mathiston First Baptist Church’s Bibb Hall from 3-8 p.m. The bloodmobile will be at East Webster High School from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 11. Retired teachers meeting April 4 The Oktibbeha, Webster, Choctaw retired teachers will meet April 4 at 1 p.m. at the Mathiston Public Library. County Superintendent Jack Treloar will be present to give an update on school progress in Webster County. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. Eupora Lodge #423 Boston butt sale Eupora Lodge #423 is selling tickets for Boston butts to be picked up at the Eupora Masonic Hall on April 6 from 3-5 p.m. The price for each ticket is $25. Lodge members have tickets and will be selling them throughout the community. Mantee Trade Day Mantee Trade Day will be April 7 beginning at 8 a.m. Barbecue, drinks and other concessions will be available. Booths are available for a $10 fee. Morehead VFW Post 3806 and Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting their annual Easter egg hunt on April 7 at 2 p.m. at the post home located on VFW Road in Eupora. Each child will receive a prize. Top prizes will be one girls bike and one boys bike. Children must be 12 and under to hunt eggs. Ladies Auxiliary will be providing refreshments. Please bring your on basket and come enjoy the fun. Communitywide Easter egg hunt The Woodmen of the World will be hosting an Easter egg hunt April 7 from 2-4 p.m. One does not have to be a Woodmen member to attend, but children must be 12 or under to hunt eggs. Many cash prizes as well as store and restaurant coupons will be given away. An inflatable jumper will be on site also. There will be two hunts, one for the smaller children and one for the older children. The Woodmen lodge is located at the intersection of highways 82 and 182 three miles east of Eupora. Stewart VFD annual meeting The Stewart Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual meeting at 7 p.m. April 12. ‘Healthy Eating and Cooking’ “A New Take on Healthy Eating and Cooking,” presented by Dr. Carla Stanford, area agent, MSU Extension, will be April 26 at 3 p.m. at the Webster County Extension Office. With the high prevalence of high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes in America, it is more important than ever to develop healthy eating habits. This free workshop, open to the public, will cover hints for healthy nutrition in fun and innovative ways. Participants will also receive recipes to help them start a healthier lifestyle. Relay for Life Torch of Hope If you would like to purchase a Torch of Hope (tiki torch) in honor of or in memory of someone for Webster County’s Relay for Life on April 27, please contact Carol Hillhouse at 325-3094 or 258-8489. The deadline to purchase Torch of Hope is April 9. Relay for Life sky lanterns Remember or honor an active caregiver or a caregiver who lost a loved one battling cancer by dedicating a sky lantern to be lit during Relay for Life of Webster County. The suggested donation is $10. Contact any Relay team captain or Carol Hillhouse at 258-8489 or 325-3094. Sky lanterns also will be available at the survivor tent at the Relay for Life event April 27 at the NMMC-Eupora walking track. Relay for Life luminaries Join people throughout Webster County and American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer by purchasing a luminaria now in honor or memory of someone who has been touched by cancer. Luminarias (with the names on them) will line the walking track at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora on April 27, the night of Webster County’s fourth Relay for Life. During the event, all participants will share in the special luminaria ceremony; candles will be lit and names will be called of those for whom luminaries have been purchased. The cost of each luminaria is $10. Anyone interested in buying one may request an order form at businesses displaying the orange luminaria posters or by calling Frances Hyde at 552-0705. People are encouraged to purchase them early. City testing storm sirens The city of Eupora is testing its severe weather sirens each Saturday at noon through the month of April unless severe weather threatens. The duration of the tests will be approximately two-three minutes. Story Hour Story Hour at the Maben Public Library is every Friday at 10 a.m. Come enjoy stories, music and other fun learning experiences for ages 3 to 6. AA meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room. Bingo at VFW Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora. Longview Opry Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free. Story Time Story Time at Webster County Public Library is every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Children ages 3-6 are invited to come and enjoy stories and activities.
