at library
Come check out new books at your local library. Webster County Public Library has several new books. “Jack Cristil“ by Sid Salter, “Through my Eyes” by Tim Tebow, “Kill Shot” by Vince Flynn, “Sleepwalker” by Karen Robards, “Explosive Eighteen” by Janet Evanovich, “Kill Alex Cross” by James Patterson and many more.  The library also has a collection of DVDs. If you have any DVDs you do not want, consider donating them to the library. You may want to donate new books to the library as memorials to someone. This would be greatly appreciated.
Absentee voting
for primary
Deborah Hood Neal, circuit clerk for Webster County, announces that the circuit clerk’s office in Walthall will be open from 8 a.m.-noon March 10 for in-office absentee voting for the presidential/congressional primary on March 13.
This is the last day to vote by in-office absentee voting before the primary. Voters that qualify to vote by in-office absentee ballot may also vote today and Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., in the circuit clerk’s office.

The Webster County Democratic Convention will be March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Courthouse in Walthall.
Brunswick stew
fundraiser set
The Clarkson-Fame Volunteer Fire Department will be having another Brunswick stew fundraiser to raise money for purchase of equipment and maintenance of the department.
The fundraiser will be March 10 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Donations of ingredients for the stew or monetary donations will be greatly appreciated.
Friends of
the Library
Friends of the Library will have their regular meeting March 12 at the library in Eupora.
Terry Everett, Delta State University poet, will be the guest speaker. Lunch may be purchased for a nominal fee.
Benefit for
Sandra Smith
A benefit for Sandra Smith will be at 4 p.m. March 17 at the Sherwood Community Center. Entertainment features Long Way to Go, Josh Buford and others. Boston butts are on sale for $25 (prepaid) and should be picked up from 2 -4 p.m. Plates will be sold at the event also, which will include a cakewalk and other activities.
Benefit program
for MCHS student
A gospel benefit program for Stevelyn “Pooda” Robinson of Winona will be March 17 at 5 p.m. at the Montgomery County Elementary School gym in Kilmichael.
The Montgomery County High School student sustained injuries in a bus accident on Dec. 2 that included a spinal injury and is receiving occupational physical therapy. An account has been set up at Renesant Bank for donations.

St. Patrick’s
Day dance
Joe H. Morehead VFW Post 3806 will be having a dance March 17 following bingo.
The featured band will be Overdrive. The cover charge is $5 at the door and the dance will start around 9 p.m.

March 15 – Dr. Wayne Porter, MSU Extension area horticulture agent, will discuss growing fruits and vegetables for the environmentally conscious gardener.
• Tastes of Spring
March 22 – Ashley Fondren, MSU food science nutrition and health promotion, will help you “pair” foods with herbs, show how to prep and store herbs, and experience the health benefits of cooking with fresh herbs.

The Avery and Hendricks family reunion will be March 25 from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., rain or shine, at the Gore Springs Community Center.

Darlene Wilson
A benefit for cancer patient Darlene Williams Wilson will be March 31 at the Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora. Activities will begin at 2 p.m., and will include music, food, fellowship and at auction at 5 p.m.

Girl Scouts Troop 23054 is selling Girl Scout cookies per order and at local booth sales though the month of March.

The Webster County Extension Service is testing dial gauges for pressure canners every Monday and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. during March. Call 258-3971 for more information.
Computer classes
These classes are being taught at the Webster County Extension Office by John Giesmann, MSU Extension Service. Classes are a limited number so please call 258-3971 to register.
April 2 – Intro To Computer and Microsoft Word (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) Learn the basics of a computer and how to create, save and correct a word document. Cost is $10.
April 3 – Intro to Internet (9 a.m.-noon) Learn how to search, save, and maneuver around the internet. Cost is $5. Intro to Email (1-4 p.m.) Learn how to create, save and organize emails. Cost is $5.
April 4 – Excel (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) Many have asked for this class so here it is. Learn how to create an Excel spreadsheet, create formulas and much more. Cost is $10.
Relay for Life
Torch of Hope
If you would like to purchase a Torch of Hope (tiki torch) in honor of or in memory of someone, please contact Carol Hillhouse at 325-3094 or 258-8489. The deadline to purchase a Torch of Hope is April 9.
Relay for Life
Join people throughout Webster County and American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer by purchasing a luminaria now in honor or memory of someone who has been touched by cancer.
Luminarias (with the names on them) will line the walking track at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora on April 27, the night of Webster County’s fourth Relay for Life.
During the event, all participants will share in the special luminaria ceremony; candles will be lit and names will be called of those for whom luminaries have been purchased.
The cost of each luminaria is $10. Anyone interested in buying one may request an order form at businesses displaying the orange luminaria posters or by calling Frances Hyde at 552-0705. People are encouraged to purchase them early.
City testing
storm sirens
The city of Eupora is testing its severe weather sirens each Saturday at noon through the month of April unless severe weather threatens. The duration of the tests will be approximately two-three minutes.
Filing deadline
Deborah Hood Neal, circuit clerk for Webster County, announces that the deadline to qualify for the position of election commissioner, districts 1-5, will be June 4 at 5 p.m.
A person must be a qualified elector in the county and district in which he/she seeks election.

Story Hour
Story Hour at the Maben Public Library is every Friday at 10 a.m. Come enjoy stories, music and other fun learning experiences for ages 3 to 6.
AA meetings
Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.
Longview Opry
Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.
Story Time
Story Time at Webster County Public Library is every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Children ages 3-6 are invited to come and enjoy stories and activities.
